Sparky the Kiwi Visits

At the end of Term 3 we were very lucky to have Mr Webb and Sparky from the Whangarei Bird Recovery Centre visit us in Pod 1. Sparky is a one-legged kiwi and has been hand reared by Mr Webb after being found as a young bird, caught in a trap. We were all thrilled to be able to see a kiwi up close and touch him too. Sparky put on a great display of finding and eating worms!

    Ezrah enjoyed learning about the kiwi and sharing lots of interesting facts about them with us, like where their nostrils are!

    That's pretty amazing to be honest. I have never patted a kiwi and have only ever seen one through glass in very dark conditions what an awesome opportunity for the chilluns. When Liv came home and told me I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I didn't believe her!
