Cave science

The children are  very excited about their upcoming trip to Kawiti Caves. So this week we have been learning about the features of caves - the stalagmites and stalactites that can be found in them. We are currently attempting to create our own in class using water saturated with baking soda. We hope that when we return to school on Monday they will have formed. Fingers crossed.

 this is what we used.

Mixing the water and baking soda.

It needed lots of stirring.

And still some more stirring .

We tied paper clips to the end of string.

Then we put it into the solution.
