Athletics 2017

The students were amazing during our annual school athletics last week. We were very proud of the students and what they managed to achieve during this event. For most of our students this is the first time that they do the athletics and that means that have to overcome a lot of challenges. Here are some photos from the track events...

Fun with Mrs Mabbitt

We have been very lucky to have Mrs Mabbitt working in Pod 1. She has been doing lots of amazing and fun activities that relate to our unit of work on caves. The children in the Pod 3 group have been enjoying doing experiments and making fossils with Mrs Mabbitt.  We have also made pattern worms and we are working on some amazing art too!!

Today we did yoga to relax after a tiring day at school. Mrs Steeves has worked hard to teach us the different poses. Here we are doing the rainbow pose.

Cave science

The children are  very excited about their upcoming trip to Kawiti Caves. So this week we have been learning about the features of caves - the stalagmites and stalactites that can be found in them. We are currently attempting to create our own in class using water saturated with baking soda. We hope that when we return to school on Monday they will have formed. Fingers crossed.

 this is what we used.

Mixing the water and baking soda.

It needed lots of stirring.

And still some more stirring .

We tied paper clips to the end of string.

Then we put it into the solution.

Now we are waiting, waiting, waiting ...

Goodbye Miss Clarke

Today sadly we have to say goodbye to our amazing student Shannon Clarke. We will be very sad to see her go, she has been a fantastic teacher and the students have really enjoyed working with her. The children made a card and a book of letters and pictures to Give to Miss Clarke as a present. Miss Clarke kindly gave the class a book called Busting which is very funny and the chuldr n loved!!

Coding & Robotics

Today the Pod 3 Whanau group spend some time doing coding in hour of code on the laptops and Kodable on the iPads. We also had lots of fun coding the new robots that we have. We have a Dash and Dot robot, two Edison robots and 3 Ozobot robots. We can’t wait to have more time using them and refining our knowledge and skills.

Coding is important as it helps us with lots of numeracy skills, it also develops our communication skills, literacy skills and team work as well as being super fun!!

Welcome to Mrs Mabbit

We are very lucky to have Mrs Mabbit with us for. The next 4 weeks, she is a teacher doing a refresher course after taking time off to raise her kiddies and pursuing other talents and interests.
